This month, Rachel New will deliver a webinar on Ethical Dilemmas in Dating Coaching

Supporting clients who are looking for a relationship can be challenging because of its very personal subject matter.

In this interactive webinar, explore your biases, assumptions, narratives and emotions about dating and relationships and discuss some typical ethical dilemmas for coaching psychology practitioners.

We will use the BPS Ethics guidelines and there will be time for individual reflection and group discussion.

Some of the questions we’ll explore include:

• How could you respond to stories you’ve heard about dating in the news or social media
• How would you support a client who has a more “traditional” approach to dating than you, such as beliefs about gender differences that aren’t supported by the best research?
• How would you approach coaching a client having negative dating experiences who is from a gender or sexual minority?
• What are some ethical decision-making processes for the coach and client when someone is dating in a way that is negatively affecting their well-being?
• What are the ethical considerations when a client wants to discuss a third party, such as someone they are dating?
• What are responsible psychological approaches and tools that can support clients who are dating?

By the end of the webinar, you should:

• have reflected on your own emotions, beliefs, biases and assumptions about dating
• be able to interrogate prevailing narratives about dating
• have more considerations for ethical decision-making in coaching clients to find a relationship
• be more informed about the world of contemporary dating, its norms and culture
• be better equipped to support well-being for your clients while they are dating
